Met Éireann issues status yellow thunderstorm warning for 16 counties

A wet and cloudy weekend is on its way

Met Éireann have issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for 16 counties this evening.

A status yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Tipperary and Waterford from 7pm on Sunday until 9.30pm.

The national forecaster said heavy downpours are expected.

Meanwhile, tonight will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain spreading northeastwards over the country. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees are expected with light to moderate southerly winds, increasing strong along southern and eastern coasts.

Monday will be a wet start for most, with outbreaks of rain clearing northeastwards through the morning and early afternoon, followed by scattered showers.

Rather breezy or windy too in the south and east, with fresh and gusty south to southwest winds but winds lighter and more variable elsewhere.

These conditions will continue into Tuesday, though song longer spells of rain are expected along with some sunshine in the south and west of the country.

Mild temperatures continue, reaching highs of 10 to 13 degrees before dropping between 3 and 7 degrees overnight.

Sunshine and scattered showers will continue on Wednesday, along with the possibility of cloudier conditions in the east and northeast.

Thursday will again see mostly cloudy conditions with some sunny spells and outbreaks of showers, though temperatures will climb slightly higher to reach between 11 to 16 degrees.

Current indications from Met Éireann show dry and cloudy conditions for Friday and the coming weekend.
