Revealed: Driving test centres in Dublin with the highest pass and fail rates

CSO figures show almost 2,000 no-shows for driving tests in Dublin last year

Learner drivers taking their test in Dún Laoghaire/Deansgrange have the best chance of passing, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

Data released by the Road Safety Authority to the CSO revealed the pass rates for seven of the eight test centres in Dublin between January and December 2023. Data was not available for Mulhuddart (Maple House).

According to these figures, the Dún Laoghaire/Deansgrange test centre had the highest pass rate in Dublin, with just over half of drivers (53pc) passing in 2023.

The test centre with the lowest pass rates in 2023 was Charlestown at 39pc, with Finglas following closely behind with a pass rate of 39.05pc.

Of the other centres in Dublin:

- Raheny driving test centre had a pass rate of 48pc for 2023

- Killester had a pass rate of 47pc for the same period

- Tallaght had a pass rate of 46pc

- Mulhuddart had a pass rate of 45pc

This trend has continued into the first four months of 2024, with Dún Laoghaire/Deansgrange showing the highest pass rate since the start of the year at 50pc.

The test centre with the lowest pass rate up to the end of April is Finglas, with a pass rate of 37pc.

So far this year, there have been 26,534 driving tests carried out in Dublin, with Tallaght the busiest centre with 7,602 tests conducted.

The quietest test centre is Mulhuddart Maple House, with just 1,179 tests conducted this year so far.

The total number of no-shows for driving tests in Dublin for 2023 was 1,990, with Tallaght the worst offender with 550 driving tests abandoned due to the learner driver not turning up.

The total number of no-shows in all of Dublin for the first four months of this year stands at 1,047, with Tallaght again having the highest number at 266 no-shows at the end of April.

Finglas follows closely behind with 221 learner drivers not showing up for their driving test so far this year.

There have been 24,055 new driving test applications to the RSA in Dublin from the beginning of the year until the end of April.

The test centre with the largest number of applications in Dublin so far this year is Tallaght, with 6,760 applications, while Charlestown is the lowest with just 1,196 applications.
