Despite two fine wins in succession, the arrival of Laois to Austin Stack Park was always going to provide the severest test of Kerry’s Joe McDonagh Cup credentials. Following the O’Moore county’s ten-point triumph, Kingdom boss Stephen Molumphy was honest in his post-match assessment.

“It was disappointing, the small mistakes there in the first half punished us, and that’s what happens with teams at that level. We’re under no illusions, they’re the [Division 2A] league champions, they put Carlow to the sword.
