Molly Wins Shield

When the exciting North Leitrim Men’s Group ‘25’ recent card drive concluded in the Bee Park Community Centre Molly O’Hagan proved to be the top card player on the occasion when she won the event on the seven game’s mark and in doing so also claimed the Séamus Farrell Memorial Shield.

The prestigious shield for the annual event was inaugurated in memory of Séamus Farrell, who was one of the founders of the card game and an integral member of the North Leitrim Men’s Group. Séamus’ brother Tony presented the shield to a delighted Molly.

Terry Kelly came second to Molly on the six games mark. In the raffle Pauric McGowan came first with Blain Feeney second and Paddy Connolly third. The table prize was won by Séamus McGloin.

25 card drive

When this Sunday night’s (May 4) North Leitrim Men’s Group progressive ‘25’ card drive takes place in the Bee Park Community Centre at 9 p.m. a very attractive jackpot prize will be on offer on the nine game’s mark, as well as the card drive’s regular prizes.

The North Leitrim Men’s Group say to all card players we “hope to see you there at 9 p.m. in the Bee Park Community Centre for the popular weekly card drive.”

New 5k Run/Walk

A new 5k run/walk will take place on Saturday morning, May 4, at 9.30 a.m. in Glenfarne Wood where the local community will stage what will be their first ever Parkrun. The Glenfarne Wood Parkrun will take place every Saturday morning at 9.30 a.m. following the initial event on May 4.

Glenfarne Wood’s 5km run, walk or jog will start at the Lodge House close to St Mary’s Church. (Eircode F91 €434). It is free and buggies and dogs on a short handheld leash are welcome. Also children from four years up are welcome to run or walk, as long as accompanied by an adult at all times. No bikes or scooters allowed.

Football Tournament

Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club will host the annual Francie Rooney Memorial under-13 football tournament on Saturday, May 4, in the club’s Community pitch at Boggaun.

As well as the host Glencar Manor club, six other clubs from Roscommon, Donegal, and Sligo will participate in the tournament in a series of matches during the course of the day. This tournament promises to be a fantastic occasion for the players involved.

The first Francie Rooney Memorial under-13 football tournament game will throw-in at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club looks forward to welcoming everyone to this tournament that commemorates one of the club’s late stalwarts and former chairperson, Francie Rooney from Glencar, who passed onto his eternal reward on January 11, 2010.

All Patrons of Merville Community Centre are asked to exercise caution when driving in the area when on Drop Off and Pick Up, as these times can be extremely busy both at the centre and in the locality. Best Practice would be to Drop Off and Pick up outside the centre where possible. Be especially aware of Pedestrians crossing at the centre Entrance and Exit. Think Safe.

PENDANT ALARMS

Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administered by Pobal. Equipment funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installation of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person’s home. The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. First year monitoring is free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user. Other systems are available at various costs for those who do not posses a Landline. Overall this monitoring product adds peace of mind for both the users, family and friends at minimal cost. Joint First in Ireland

Lara Swann, Leaving Certificate class of 2023 was recently presented with a special accolade in recognition of her obtaining joint first highest marks in Design and Communication Graphics in the 2023 Leaving Certificate State exams. This award by Techno Teachers Association is given to a very talented tiny cohort of students in Ireland, whose talent, dedication and drive allow them to gain full marks in state exams. Riverstown Community would like to add their congratulations to that of Grammar School Headmaster, Michael Hall, Lara’s Technical Graphics teacher, Pádraig Giblin and the entire school community on her amazing achievement and wish her continued success in her studies.

Well done to all the children who took part in the Handwriting competition held recently in Sooey NS Results are as follows: under-10 boys first Patrick Gilligan, second Aaron Maguire Dykes, Joint third Karl Galvin and Shea McGrath.
