A group of parents from a south Wicklow primary school have begun an initiative that may see as many as six neighbouring schools offer voluntary agreements to parents to restrict the purchasing of smartphones.

Inspired by actions undertaken by Greystones and Delgany parents associations, and informed by the Department of Education’s ‘Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free’ guidelines, members of the newly reformed Tinahely NS Parents Association aim to remove the burden on parents feeling pressured into buying smartphones, by implementing agreements not to purchase them until their children reach secondary school.
