Communities across County Wicklow will rise bright and early on Saturday, May 11,in order to show their support for Darkness into Light in order to raise vital funds for Pieta’s suicide prevention service.

Eight Darkness into light events will take place in the Garden County, commencing at 4.15am, including Killincarrig, Greystones; Carnew, Tinahely Community Hall, Blessington Demesne, Scoil Chonglais, Baltinglass; Scouting Ireland, Arklow Sea Scouts Centre; Moyad, Convent Avenue, Bray and Leitrim Place, Wicklow town.

Wicklow and District Lions Club help organise the increasingly popular Darkness into Light in Wicklow town and Sean Olohan already has high hopes for this year’s event.

“We have been very busy this week taking registrations. There is also the option of registering in the morning if you haven’t been able to do so beforehand. We will have some disco music pumping away to get everyone in the mood and we will all meet beside the Bross Fox at Leitrim Place. We will also hold a warm-up session beforehand.

“It’s always a wonderful event with a real sense of community spirit. Inspired and Nick’s Coffee Shop will both be open beforehand and afterwards, which is very appreciated for so early in the morning. Last year’s event attracted around 1,5000 people and raised around €25,000, so we are hopeful of a similar repeat this year.”
