Kerry Katona has had a piece of her rib inserted in her nose to fix a number of holes caused by using cocaine.

The former Atomic Kitten star (43) underwent the procedure at Pall Mall Cosmetics in the UK this week after she was left with a hole in her septum after previous drug use in her 20s.

"Coke was my poison, plus I married my drug dealer because I thought I would get it a bit cheaper,” she revealed.

Images posted online on Wednesday showed Katona preparing to go under the knife.

Doctors used a piece of her rib to make her nose more stable and to correct the support inside her nostril.

Katona said that she suffered badly due to the stigma surrounding the injury she received.

“I have so much shame and embarrassment around my nose because of my past but it's been a million and one years now so for me it's like a big reward,” she said.

“I'm always sniffing all the time because my nose is always running and I'm always very paranoid about it. So to get this fixed is amazing.”

Her surgeon, Dr Raghavan, said she had “a hole in the septum, inside the nose and there is not much support there for the tip of the nose. It just goes in and there is no support there.

“And that is making the shape of the nose a bit different to how it was before. We should be able to reconstruct the support again and we will have to use a piece of rib cartilage which we would take from the right side. We can mobilise the lining of the nose.

“In the future, there will be better shape and better function and the hole should heal.”

Katona wrote in her OK! Magazine column on Monday that the surgery was imminent.

“They're going to use a piece of bone from my rib to repair it. Hopefully, that will be any day now,” she said.

Katona said drug use had caused “three holes” in her septum and that her past life was very stressful.

"I love a drink, but coke was more my poison and plus I married my drug dealer because I thought I would get it a bit cheaper,” she revealed.

“I wouldn't say it was addiction, it was more of a co-dependency. This was at a time where I would have 40 paps outside my house, my mum was selling stories on me and I was married to a drug dealer.

“Cocaine became my only friend it was all I had. Rehab didn't help me get off coke at all, when I got out, I met my drug dealer.

“See mental health wasn't a big thing back then, no one knew what bipolar was, I didn't know, I thought it was a sport!

“So when I was told I was bipolar no one had ever heard of it, and then all of a sudden it became a thing.

“My drug dependency started well before I was famous, I was 14 and my mum told me it was sherbet and it was speed. I thought that's what you did with your mum. That was normal for me.”

She added the surgery “finally closed this chapter” of her life.
