Justice at last: survivors and families of Stardust victims embrace verdict

Bairbre Power

There was no easy day listening to the harrowing evidence at the Stardust Tribunal in 1981. It was grim and unrelenting, and if I found it upsetting, I was constantly looking across at the young survivors who came along with the devastated parents and relatives of those who did not make it out of the St Valentine’s disco alive.

A total of 363 witnesses gave evidence to the tribunal of inquiry, and of those, 161 were present in the building on the night of the fire.
