A former bank employee who gardaí investigated as part of a massive probe into organised fraud has been arrested in Manchester after an international warrant was issued for his arrest by Irish authorities.

The man, in his 20s, who is allegedly linked to the Black Axe crime organisation, fled the country after being charged last year with serious organised crime offences linked to fraud. His extradition to this country is understood to be “extremely imminent”. Formerly based in west Dublin, his own gang members are suspected of burning out his car in what was described as a “sinister warning” after his initial arrest by detectives from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB).
