Gardaí appeal for witnesses following arrest of man (20s) at Grand Canal Square

A man in his 20s is due in court today following an incident in Dublin on Thursday evening.

Gardaí responded to an incident following reports regarding the alleged activities of a man in the Grand Canal area of Dublin 2, a spokesperson said.

"An Garda Síochána continue to carry out enquiries into the exact nature of this incident and to attempt to independently verify the concerns,” they said.

It is understood the incident took place in front of Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

The man failed to engage with gardaí at the scene and was arrested under the Public Order Act.

He was taken to a Garda station in the Dublin region and has been since charged with a number of public order offences.

He is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin today.

"An Garda Síochána would appeal to any person in the Grand Canal Square area of Dublin 2 between 5pm and 6pm, who directly observed a male acting in a concerning manner, or who has direct knowledge of any incident occurring in the area, or who has any video footage of an incident that occurred to contact Pearse Street Garda Station at 01-6669000,” a spokesperson added.
