Tributes paid to talented musician (25) killed in crash between car and lorry in Roscommon

Tributes are being paid to a talented musician who was killed in a car crash in Roscommon on Wednesday night.

The fatal crash occurred in the N61 Athlone to Roscommon Road at around 10pm when the when the car was involved in a crash with a lorry.

The male driver of the car was removed from the scene to Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.

He has been named locally as Rian Sheridan (25) who was a native of Cluainluáin, Renvyle, Co Galway.

Mr Sheridan was a talented musician who regularly performed at traditional music festivals around the country, such as the Clifden Tradfest.

The dairy farmer also played football with Kilbride GAA.

Locals said Mr Sheridan was “a true gentleman and a wonderful inspiration to his family and so many friends everywhere”.

Another friend said online: “Too well, you know how blessed you were to have a son, a brother, a friend like Rian but sadly that only makes the parting harder’.”

Mr Sheridan is survived by his parents Finian and Maria, sisters Ciara, Doireann and Aebhin and girlfriend Aine.

His requiem mass will take place on Monday April at Christ the King Church, Tullycross, with burial afterwards in Renvyle Cemetery.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the N61 at Newtown at the time of the collision are asked to make footage available to Gardaí.
