In 2024, fifty shades of green has emerged as a powerful ode to nature’s beauty, offering a sanctuary of ‘connectedness’ within our homes. Navigating the complexities of modern life in the digital age can take its toll, so I’m not surprised that our longing for tranquillity and harmony with the natural world continues to extend further into our homes.

On a visit to some friends recently I was reminded of what can be achieved when you really set your mind to it. One of the stand-out features of their newly renovated kitchen is the use of Connemara marble. Splashed across countertops and with a striking floor to ceiling feature wall, the effect is breathtaking.

As the name suggests, Connemara marble comes from the rugged Western shores of this beautiful island of ours and is an exquisite embodiment of a green colour palette. This stone is revered all over the world for its mesmerising shades ranging from subtle mossy tones to striking emerald veining. The particular stone used in this kitchen even had flushes of pinkish, peachy tones. You don’t have to do a full kitchen to enjoy this marble either. Connemara marble accents, for example in the form of coasters or even trays, are a chic touch.

There are plenty of ways to infuse verdant hues into the home. Paint is always a good place to start. Sage or moss green can lend a serene backdrop to bedrooms and living rooms. Deeper shades like olive or emerald make a bold statement in dining areas or home offices.

Introduce green hues through textiles such as curtains, rugs, and upholstery. Look for fabrics in natural fibres like linen or cotton. If you want to go all in, try layering different shades of green. Decorative elements inspired by nature, such as ceramic vases filled with fresh foliage, botanical prints or artwork, and sculptural pieces crafted from sustainable materials can really elevate your decor and add a touch of sophistication to any room.
