We learned last week how new tenancy rents grew by 9.1pc annually and those in existing tenancies rose by 5.9pc. In the same period Ireland had the EU’s third highest increase in rents.

Why does Ireland have such a persistent gap between needs and delivery? Why does this problem persist and how can we fix this?
