Máiría Cahill: Skint working-class could prove to be rich pickings for the far right

The new Taoiseach has a unique opportunity to help working-class communities

What is happening with the price of a pint? On Wednesday I was lucky enough to attend an event with a free bar. Collectively we drank it dry, as I found to my cost when I ordered two drinks at 11pm. A cocktail of some concoction and a whiskey and ginger stung me for the grand total of €26. I should have framed the receipt.

A straw poll of my friends showed varying results for the price of a pint in Dublin. In north Dublin one friend paid €6.90 for a pint of lager. South of the Liffey it was €8.70. In the airport it is over €7.
