I once went to view an externally fabulous 1930s home in South Dublin, which had been meticulously and determinedly destroyed inside by its then owner, a sweet older lady who seemed well proud of her handiwork combined with that of the idiot/charlatan handymen she had the misfortune to employ on and off through a 20-year campaign of abject destruction.
Familiar with the house type in its protected original condition, I noted with some awe the considerable additions and subtractions she had made over the decades. And she had been busy.
