Real Health: The importance of having a game plan with Anna Geary

Karl Henry

What is a gameplan? How do we say ‘yes’ to opportunity? And why is constructive criticism so vital in life?

Anna Geary joined me on the Real Health podcast this week to discuss her new book, ‘Anna’s Game Plan,’ which is a practical step by step guide to conquering your hang ups and unlocking your confidence.

The former camogie All-Ireland winner, broadcaster and now author told me about the importance of the book being full of both actionable steps and stories from her own experiences.

During the conversation, we dived into the lessons in the book and Anna told me about pushing outside of your comfort zone by saying ‘yes,’ to opportunities.

“I say, sometimes we need to get out of our own way and say yes. A lot of people will have read before the idea that our default decision in our brains is to say no. It's a protection mechanism, but when you say no to something, maybe because it's out of fear of judgment or fear of failure but you kind of cut off that possibility and that opportunity when you say no,” she said.

Anna spoke about not falling prey to comparison especially on social media:

"You know, on social media you need to ask yourself, who you're following, why you're following them, do they make you feel good about yourself? Do they inspire you? Do they motivate you? I won’t lie, in the past year. I've probably muted people's accounts just because I'm not in the headspace where I want to watch them,” the author explained.
