CHARLEVILLE CHEESE PREMIER B FINAL

St Brendan’s Park v Ballyheigue Athletic

Sunday, May 5

Mounthawk Park, Tralee at 5pm

One of the most exciting divisions this year was Premier B with a great battle between St Brendan’s Park, Ballyheigue Athletic, Castlegregory and Killarney Celtic B for a place in the final.

Ballyheigue clinched their place in the final with a few weeks to spare but the second slot was not known until the final series of games in the division with The Park’s win over Castlegregory clinching their place in the decider.

After losing a league final last season Ballyheigue Athletic are very anxious to try and go all the way this year.

Manager Pat McElligott has a big squad of players at his disposal as the club have a decent B side also who lost the Division 3 League final to Kingdom Corinthians.

He has a combination of experienced players with some talented young players coming through as well which is a nice mix for the road to success.

The Park’s nine-year wait to get back to the top-flight of Kerry soccer ended after winning promotion and a spot in the final with a dramatic win over fellow title contenders Castlegregory in the final league game of the season.

Ken Twamley took over the reins as manager of the side last year and he has been using a lot of young talented players and they have come a long way in the course if two seasons.

They are a side with great flair and play an attractive brand of football keeping the ball on the deck as much as possible. The Tralee side also have a strong bench with several players who can come on and make a big difference.

This promises to be a fascinating game between two evenly matches sides and should go right down to the wire. Ballyheigue will probably go into the game as slight favourites but they will have to turn in a top drawer performance if they are to lift the title.

The Park will have no fear of their more illustrious opponents and will have their own game plan to try and etch out a win. It should be a very close game between two sides who will be craving to lift the title and the feeling is that The Park have the better talent and the desire to fashion a win.
