Dundalk’s second team kicked off their T20 campaign in style with a convincing win away to Clontarf on April 28.

The Minor Cup fixture took place at Clontarf’s Castle Avenue, an international ground which will host this weekend’s Ireland vs Pakistan T20 series.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat, a solid and patient partnership from openers Yash Verma and Avijot Singh got the town to 81 without loss. Singh went on to make a hard-fought half-century and, with the help of a fast-paced 33 from Shibu Uthaman at number three, Dundalk set the hosts a target of 155 to win.

It didn’t take long for Dundalk’s bowling attack to get going and once the first wicket fell Clontarf failed to recover, falling to an eventual total of 97. Pick of the town’s bowlers was pacer Shakeel Qamar with an impressive 3-11 off his four overs. A collected performance in the field included a superb high catch on the move from Alen Shaji at cow corner.

Dundalk 2 will hope to bring their winning momentum into the first home match of the season as they welcome Knockharley 3 to Hiney Park on Bank Holiday Monday. Interested in getting involved in cricket? Visit www.dundalkcricket.com or email contact@dundalkcricket.com.
