Kilnenor Historical Society

The Kilnenor Historical Society held their AGM in the May Byrne House on Tuesday 23rd April.

The Chairman Pat Cullen gave his report for the past year, which was followed by a very comprehensive report from the Secretary Elizabeth McCarthy Byrne who detailed all the work of the past year. The treasurer’s report was read by Dan Kennedy, with all reports adopted.

The election of officers followed, with Martin Stephens being elected Chairman, Elizabeth McCarthy Byrne re-elected Secretary and Dan Kennedy re-elected Treasurer. Work is taking place at present with the identification of graves in the graveyard.

Coolgreany Road

Coolgreany Road Action Committee are holding a public meeting in the May Byrne House on Monday 13th May at 8pm. Everyone is welcome.

Concert

The AGM of the May Byrne Trust House will be held in the House on Monday 20th May at 7.30pm, everyone welcome.

Tidy Towns

The 2km clean-up is ongoing, the Tidy Towns committee are asking residents to come out and help, your help would be greatly appreciated, Gloves and bags are available from Maureen or Marie.

Handball

A 6 week programme has commenced, giving mums and friends the chance to play in a fun, non-competitive environment. No experience or equipment required. Every Wednesday until end of April, 8pm to 9pm. Get fit and have some fun. Everyone welcome.

Digital remote working hub

Craanford Community Centre has now completed works to create a new digital remote working hub.

The new hub includes desk space, hi speed broadband access, printing facilities, an isolation pod for online meetings and tea and coffee making facilities.

KILANERIN-BALLYFAD

Field Day

The Annual Kilanerin and Ballythomas Field Day will be held from 2-5pm on Sunday 9th June at the GAA Field in Kilanerin for a joint event with Kilanerin and Ballythomas National schools.

This is a great day packed with child friendly activities and fun for all the family. We’ll have the old favourites of the “Goldfish” arena; Vintage display, bouncy castles; music; bric-a-brac stall; bingo; bottle stall; dog show; underage races, penalty kicks & plants and shrubs as well as some newer events such as hang tough, jersey sale and the donut wall.

There will also be plenty of options for food & drink with ice cream; hot dogs & burgers; home baking and tea/coffee. All proceeds going to both National Schools.

National Finalists

Congratulations to Katlyn Browne -Kehoe student at Colaiste An Atha creator of a new board game “Know your County” who has qualified for the national final of the Foiroige Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) on 8th May. Katelyn was also a winner of a Local Enterprise Office Wexford award.

The winning continues at Colaiste An Atha. Two groups of students claimed the overall best project and overall runner up project in the SciFest at SETU Waterford recently. They will attend the national finals in September. Congratulations to Anna Brooks Silva, Kate Smith and Kamila Swider, also Roisin Hyland, Lauren Whelan and Eve Ryan.

Lotto

Numbers drawn in the Parish Lotto held on 22nd April were 11, 19, 27 and 28. Match 3 winners Keith Meegan, Patricia Meegan and Margaret Furlong. Next draw on 29th April, jackpot total of €15,150.

Volunteer with Tidy Towns

Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns are a committed group of volunteers whose focus is community sustainability and bio diversity. As we approach the busy summer months it’s all hands on deck for Tidy Towns. The group now meet 3 times per week for the summer months, every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm and every Sunday morning at 10am.

KTT will enter the annual SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition, administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development which has now grown into a national sustainability movement.

Tidy Towns success now benefits towns, villages and communities all over Ireland in meaningful ways, by working together towards the common good, improving local areas to make them better, more sustainable places to live, work and play. Underage News - Nursery for pre-school boys and girls takes place on Saturdays at 9.45 in Buffers Alley. New families welcome.

Cúl Camp - Online bookings for Kellogg’s Cúl Camps are now open (www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie). The camp in Buffers Alley is from 8th-12th July.

Mayoral Campaign - The Grande Finale and the announcement of our Mayor 2024 will take place on Saturday 18th May in the clubhouse. The Monster Draw will also take place on the night. Tickets for this draw (€10 or €20 for 3) are on sale with the first prize of €1,000 and 20 other attractive prizes. Anyone associated with the club in any way or with the Mayoral campaign is welcome to come along where refreshments will be served, and a great night is guaranteed.

Shedfest - The date for this year’s event is Saturday 11th May. It is year fifteen for Shedfest now in what has become Wexford’s biggest and best outdoor and indoor music festival.

We welcome music lovers, dancefloor divas, high stool philosophers and everyone in between to the Arena, Buffers Alley for a night of music, craic, excitement, and entertainment. The line up this year highlights the absolute best of what Wexford has to offer but we also have national and international acts in what promises to be a stellar night.

Congratulations to Carole Maxwell, daughter of Kathleen and Gabriel, Tara Hill, who recently featured on Nationwide on RTE television.

Carole, who has lived in London for the past 22 years, is an extremely talented artist, and now runs her own business in London. Great to see Irish people like Carole, who move away and get on so well abroad.

Activator Pole walking

An Activator Pole walking group meet every Thursday at 11am at Castletown GAA pitch. Open to club & non club members.

Activator poles are particularly good for people with balance concerns or mobility issues. Benefits include: Improved stability; reduced impact on hips/knees; improved strength, aerobic fitness, balance & range of motion; Improved posture & promotion of better gait pattern.
