She is the proud granddaughter of Paddy and Catherine Cullen of 91 Charleton Hill and the great granddaughter of Paddy Cullen from The Maudlins, New Ross, who was one of the founding members of The Maudlin Pipe Band.

He went on to help form The O’Hanrahan Pipe Band here in New Ross.

Laila carries on the family tradition, performing regularly with New Ross & District Pipe Band.

She came first in the Under 16 Solo Tenor Drumming Leinster Championships in Rush, Co Dublin, in late March. Two weeks later, she came first in the under 16’s Solo Tenor Drumming at the Pan Celtic Festival in Carlow and on Saturday, April 20, she won gold again in The Munster Championships in the under 16’s solo Tenor Drumming.
