Updates were given about several projects in New Ross at the April New Ross Municipal District meeting.

Area manager Alan Fitzhenry said Wexford County Council’s Economic Development Section continue to work on the advance factory project.

“The director has given an undertaking to come to New Ross and report when the current round of meetings has completed,” he said, after it emerged that there are two companies interested in building the factory. Councillors called for an update at the May meeting, stressing the many, many years the Butlersland industrial estate project has been in gestation.

Mr Fitzhenry said work continues at pace to prepare the approved Motorhome Park for Part VIII planning. “A Flood Risk Assessment is required and is being done in-house, in order to speed up the application,” he said.

Meanwhile funding for the pedestrianisation of Quay Street has been sought under the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund Fifth call. The outcome of this application is expected within three weeks.

Mr Fitzhenry said finishing works continue in Pearse Park on the Sensory Garden project, ‘albeit hampered by the amount of rain this past month’.

The council are targeting a provisional official opening date of Tuesday, May 21.

Site investigations took place in Rosbercon in the past weeks and Wexford County Council’s Special Projects department continue to prepare the approved New Ross Skate Park for Part VIII planning.
