Gorey Cricket Club proudly hosted their second annual dinner, beginning an exciting season.

The esteemed CL President Siobhán McBennett graced the occasion and presented the well-deserved trophies to Azeer, the best batsman; Shifan, the best bowler; Bala Achari, the most dedicated player; and Vincent Murphy, the clubperson of the year.

All stand as shining examples of dedication and skill in our club.

Rob Millard, club President and Master of Ceremonies, was his usual enthusiastic self, setting the scene for an exciting season ahead. The atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation, leaving everyone eager for the upcoming events.

AL FitzGerald, our Chairperson, spoke of cricket’s rich bicentennial legacy in the region, a history that is still recalled today.

Herbie Honohan, Wexford’s Mr. Cricket and voluntary co-ordinator for many years, emphasised the need to follow up the immense interest in the local schools.

Vincent Murphy, clubperson of the year, presented by OCC Secretary Steve Wood.

The Esmonde Perpetual and Trent Johnston Cups, two prestigious cricket tournaments, are explicitly aimed at our secondary and primary schools.

These events, pencilled in for May 8 and June 12 respectively, in the Town Park, Gorey, are a testament to the club’s commitment to fostering cricket at a grassroots level, and your participation is crucial to their success.

We are honoured to announce the launch of the Charles Roark Plate, a six-a-side mini-blitz softball event to be played on Sunday, May 26.

This event is a tribute to a man who upheld the spirit of cricket in its purest form, providing many with the joy and appreciation of the game.

We look forward to celebrating Charles Roark’s legacy with an array of enthusiasts, beginners, and veterans in this special event.
