National Broadband Plan creating rural-urban divide in Co Wexford – ‘it’s unfair, everyone should have the same service’

While those in the hinterlands have, for many years, been the poor relations when it comes to high-speed broadband, some Wexford councillors are now fearful that the roles will be reversed, with the townsfolk the one’s left behind. At April’s meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC), TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland Deployment, provided an update on the rollout of the super-fast service across the county.

Explaining that 24,000 premises in Co Wexford are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see NBI deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools, Mr Malone said that over half of that number could order high-speed broadband as of today.
