The Rosslare Harbour/Kilrane Environmental Group (RHKEG) is to officially launch its Community Biodiversity Action Plan in Kilrane National School on Wednesday, May 1 at 7.30 p.m.

The extensive plan, which was compiled by Jim Hurley, contains a number of proposed projects, each of which will work towards improving biodiversity in the Rosslare Harbour and Kilrane area.

These projects will focus on eight individual sites; the Village Park and Gardens in Rosslare Harbour, the sand dunes adjoining Rosslare Harbour Beach, the soft cliff backing the sand dunes, the Barr na hAille meadow in Rosslare Harbour, the OPW property in Rosslare Harbour, the church grounds in Rosslare Harbour, two areas adjoining Kilrane National School, and the N25 road between Kilrane and Rosslare Harbour.

Expected to run until 9 p.m., the evening will consist of a presentation by Jim Hurley and will be facilitated by Betty Kehoe, local biodiversity officer.

"This is a great opportunity to learn how we as a community, with the support of our statutory bodies, need to manage our biodiversity for future generations,” said secretary of the RHKEG Micheál Delaney. “You will get some practical advice about how to promote biodiversity both in our local areas and our own gardens.”
