A big thank you goes to Tesco, Vevay Road, Bray for their very kind donation to our local Glencormac Ladies tea. Tesco run a “Donate your Tokens” from January to March this year and Glencormac were delighted to be presented with €728 from Store Manager Audrey Sutton who is pictured with two employees of Tesco and Glens Ladies stars Kathie Browne and Lindsay Martin in the store. Naturally everyone is entitled to shop where they like but if you can support Tesco Bray as they have supported our community, it would be appreciated.

May History Lecture

The members of our Kilmacanogue History Society are eagerly awaiting the next and last of the season lecture. It will take place on Monday the 13th of May in Kilmacanogue Parish Hall and the society are lucky to have Marc McMenamin returning again (his previous Talks were a real treat that kept the audience on the edge of their seats with stories of conspiracy and intrigue). This time will be no different, as his subject is “Did Explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine conquer Mount Everest almost 3 decades before Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953”? It promises to be a thrilling lecture.

Sugar Loaf Strollers

Our local “Sugarloaf Strollers Walking Group” have announced the next hike will be on the 18th May and up the third highest mountain in Wicklow and Leinster, Tonelagee. If you would like to join this wonderful group on the day or in the future, then send a WhatsApp to Philip Mulligan at 087-2079844.

Darkness into Light walk

Glencormac United members will be doing the annual “Darkness into Light” Walk from Bray Seafront on Saturday 11th May at 4am. This is open to everyone who wants to join them and remember loved ones by raising awareness and monies to help prevent other families who suffer the terrible loss of loved ones. GAA News

Two men’s senior teams in action last week. The Mens 2nd team faced Kilcoole on Thursday might in a Division 5 clash. This was a good tight game with Kilcoole emerging winners on a 2-09 to 11 points score. It was also a proud night for a Father and son as Stephen Morgan lined out at Midfield with his son Brandon. The 1st team faced a strong Dunlavin Team on Sunday morning in a Division 1A clash. The final score was 3-10 to 1-05. Finally, well done to our own Peadar Smyth who is assisting Jonathan Daniels with the Wicklow Minors. Peadar is a dedicated coach and his personality taround the camp is paying dividends as they have had wins over Carlow, Wexford and Offaly to date.

Soccer action

Both senior teams in action last week. The ladies drew 1-1 away to Rosemount Mulvey and so, qualified from their group into the quarter finals of the Teresa Healy EWFL Cup. This was a tough group, well done girls.

The men’s team lost 2-0 on Sunday at home to Arklow Town in the premier league. It was a tight first half but Arklow scored just before the break. Despite the glens efforts in the 2nd half, the goal would not come and Arklow sealed the win with a late 2nd. Michael Prendergast and Colm Nolan played well in a good performance. A speedy recovery to Glens Joey Halwax who broke his ankle late on.
