The discrepancy in funding between the five districts in Wicklow County Council has been highlighted by the Labour Party local election candidate for Greystones, Anne Waithira Burke, who said the funding that Greystones Municipal District receives compared with the other four districts is “astounding” given its population growth.

Calling for Wicklow County Council to revise their procedures for allocating budgets, Ms Waithira Burke said that residents in Greystones, Delgany, Kilcoole, Newcastle, and Kiladreenan “likely aren't aware of how little funding the region gets from Wicklow County Council in relation to the other Wicklow Municipal Areas of Wicklow, Bray, Baltinglass and Arklow”.
