Local politicians joined with Taoiseach Simon Harris as Greystones took part in the Wicklow-wide coffee morning on Friday, April 26, in aid of cancer support charities.

Hosted by the Beach House, the 13th East Coast FM Coffee Morning coincided with others being run across the county.

Businesses in Wicklow also helped raise funds for cancer support, with special mention to Kilcoole’s Creative Touch hairdressers, who managed to raise €2,200.

Councillor Stephen Stokes, Cathaoirleach of the Greystones Municipal District, commended the organisers, adding: “Several hundred euro was raised. I wish them continued success with all of their activities.”

Greystones Cancer Support is a voluntary, self-funded, community-based organisation. Its focus is to provide guidance, encouragement, and emotional support on a confidential basis to people affected by cancer and their families.

Also in attendance was Wicklow Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore, who said: “People all over Wicklow are generous with their time and skills, from driving people to their appointments, running counselling services, and volunteering in the service’s charity shops.

“Their work is something for the whole county to be proud of, and today is an excellent opportunity to talk to those working on the ground in these services and to thank them for their efforts.”

Other charities who supported the coffee morning included West Wicklow Cancer Support, Rathdrum Cancer Support, Wicklow Hospice Foundation, Purple House, Wicklow Cancer Support, Arklow Cancer Support and Roundwood Cancer Support.
