Students from Coláiste Eoin Hacketstown recently celebrated 30 years of the school’s beloved Transition Year Show with two outstanding performances.

The TY students showcased their diverse talents in this year's production ‘Broadway’, which marked three decades of the show at Coláiste Eoin, with their dedication, effort, and collaborative spirit evident across both nights, culminating in remarkable displays of teamwork.

This year's innovative show amalgamated elements from four classic productions: The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, Chicago, and The Greatest Showman, with this year's ensemble of TY students demonstrating their exceptional abilities, impressing all with their performances as actors, musicians, singers, comedians, and acrobats.

“Broadway combined four musicals into one show, with a remarkable feature of the show being that some of our students performing had parents in the very first show, others had aunts and uncles,” a school spokesperson said.

“The story of the show was searching for a director, with several students singing, playing instruments etc, with some students singing for the first time in front of an audience.

“Ms King and Ms Farrell were recognised on the night and presented with a gift for their previous work on the shows, while students past and current worked on sound with Kieran and Mr Connolly and Caoimhe Byrne as choreographer.

“Kieran Fitzgerald and Deirdre McCarney have been working on the show for 22 years and James Burke, who has never missed a show, made all the programmes.

“It’s been 30 years since Ms Farrell started the TY show, with Ms King taking over in 2013 for seven shows and Ms O Meara taking over the show in 2020 (five shows),” they added.

“The first show was first performed in rooms 13 and 14, and it has always been run by a member of the English Department, with the community always showing great support for the show.”

Reflecting on three decades of the show, the Principal Mr Alan Costello acknowledged the contributions of past TY show directors Ms Elizabeth Farrell and Ms Noelle King, alongside current director Ms O'Meara.

Mr Costello extended his gratitude to Deirdre McCarney, Caoimhe Byrne, Kieran Fitzgerald, Ms. Nessa O'Meara and the support team for orchestrating such a magnificent event and his appreciation for this creativity and commitment.

“The students' engagement and enjoyment were a pleasure to witness, and they have truly honoured their teachers and families with their accomplishments,” he said.

“The scriptwriting, choreography, drama, and overall assembly of the show demanded immense effort. It was delightful to welcome back former teachers Ms. Dalton, Ms. Hickey, and Ms. Mullins to the show.

“The school commends the organization and teamwork that brought forth such vibrant performances that were a joy to behold.

“We are immensely thankful for the volunteers who dedicate their time to our school's endeavours.”
