Wicklow District election hopeful Mia Fahey McCarthy was among the 500 party members gathered in the RDS for the Green Party convention.

The Greens are running a record 111 local candidates with an even balance of male and female candidates, including three Wicklow candidates running for a seat in Wicklow District, Greystones and Bray East.

While attending the convention, Mia Fahey McCarthy got the opportunity to raise some local Wicklow issues at a national level with party leader Eamon Ryan.

Speaking after the convention, she said: “I spoke to Minister Ryan about the need to provide the much needed light rail service from Wicklow town to Dublin. An improved service with more frequency will open access to the capital for students, people travelling for work but also will make the town a more desirable tourist destination. These plans have been worked on for several years particularly by my party colleague Steven Matthews, TD and he acknowledged that this would only be a positive move for the town and surrounding areas.”
