Wicklow student selected for Gaeltacht residency scholarship

Abbie Mai Delaney, a student of Coláiste Chill Mhantain, has reason to celebrate after securing a much sought after place in the Gaeltacht residency scholarship for transition year, Scéim na bhFoghlaimeoirí Gaeilge.
Abbie Mai, who is the daughter of Linda and Stephen Delaney, is currently a third year pupil and is one of only 30 students nationwide who will get the opportunity through this programme for the school year. Students who achieve this result gain the opportunity to conduct the school year programme an any of the five offshore second-level schools.
Students attend the schools and stay with a host family for the year and get to engage with island life while learning a lot of Irish and develop independent living skills. They also benefit from smaller class sizes and develop a passion for the island, its heritage and the Irish language.
