'Peter Casey’s injury places a real downer on Limerick’s mood despite win over Tipperary in Munster' - Read Frank Roche's report from The Gaelic Grounds.

John Kiely was 'very pleased' with Limerick performance.

"Very pleased with our performance today," he told The Sunday Game.

"It was nip and tuck for the first half but for the last third of it, we managed to get a bit ascendency."

"We had played with a strong breeze in that first half so we knew we had a lot of work to do coming into that second half and we knew that at half-time."

"Their threat off breaking ball was a big watch for us and we coped with it really well and we used that long ball then as a platform to attack then."

"We were in control for most of that second half, and used the ball well."

John Kiely says Peter Casey's injury is 'significant.'

"I don't know the full extent of the injury but it is a significant injury there's no two ways about that," Kiely told The Sunday Game.

"We're thinking of him now this evening.

"He'll get the best of care. We'll make sure he's well looked after and we'll give him every chance to make a comeback at some point in the future but yeah it is very, very disappointing."

"Apart from winning or losing or anything like that, you know, and it doesn't matter what team the players are on - nobody wants to see players getting seriously injured on the field of play.

"Peter has been there before with a serious injury and he's had to make that recovery before.

Declan Hannon says Limerick have room for improvement

"I don't think we're flying the way we want to be to be honest," said the Limerick captain afterwards.

"It took us a long time to get going.

"That's down to Tipperary and the ferocity they brought in the first half.

"We just wanted to settle down at half-time and get back to basics.

"We worked hard in the second half, and the lads coming off the bench were fantastic."

Limerick captain Declan Hannon accepted the man-of-the-match award on behalf of his team-mate Peter Casey, who sustained a serious injury during the game.

"Obviously I don't know the severity of the injury but it didn't look great," Hannon told The Sunday Game.

"A game of hurling is a game of hurling but he's obviously first and foremost in our thoughts.

"Peter was flying it obviously. Hopefully it's not too bad, we'll have to wait and see."

Limerick make it two wins from two with a brilliant performance in the Gaelic Grounds.

The game was tight and scrappy early on but Limerick opened up a gap in the closing stages of the first half.

They piled on the pressure in the second, with goals from Aaron Gillane and Peter Casey seeing them run out as comfortable winners.

The victory was marred by a serious injury to Peter Casey, which he sustained in the process of scoring his goal.

It was a worrying loss for Tipperary, but they have no time to feel sorry for themselves with a game against Waterford coming up next Saturday.

Limerick have two weeks before they're out again, in the third round against Cork.
