Longford overturned a one point half-time deficit to defeat Wexford by three points and progress to the Leinster U-20 Andrew Corden Cup final.

Longford played with the aid of a breeze but Wexford led by one at the break. This was largely down to their own wastefulness and a twenty first minute goal from Wexford midfielder Cathal Kehoe.

Longford opened the scoring with a ’45 from chief marksman Matthew Carey. Carey and Dylan Cooke-Leonard traded scores from placed balls. A fine solo effort from Carey put Longford into the lead before Kehoe’s goal edged Wexford in front. Both sides were guilty of poor shooting in a half short on quality.

The second half was played with much more intent than the opening period with both sides notching some fine points.

Cathal Kehoe and Cooke-Leonard kept Wexford in front with Cooke-Leonards an excellent effort from the sideline. These scores came either side of two Jamie Brady-Hynes points.

However, Longford began to exert control and points from the excellent Carey along with Michael Flynn and Paddy Moran eventually saw them lead by three.

An additional time black card for Johnathan Burke left Longford under pressure in the final moments but they hung on for a deserved win in Newtownforbes.
