Soon after his mother, Mary, taught Oisín O’Callaghan to ride a bicycle in the back garden of their home in Ardpatrick, Co Limerick, he ventured into the nearby Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Park, which boasts 92km of trails.

In 2007, Coillte opened a designated mountain bike track in Ballyhoura with the aid of funding from JP McManus. Oisín doesn’t remember the first time he careered down that trail but soon enough he turned it into his personal playground. Mountain biking became his sport of choice.
