‘I’ve been s**t, I wasn’t up to scratch’ – Sam Bennett determined to get back to Tour de France
Irish sprinter eager to make quick impression with his new French team and climb back to the top
Irish sprinter Sam Bennett will be in action for his new team Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale for the first time at the Tour de la Provence tomorrow
It’s just over a week after the Tour de France ended. His home-town club, Carrick Wheelers, have held a parade in his honour, although travel restrictions mean he can’t attend. There are giant banners up all over the town. Sam has been on ‘The Late Late Show’, been in every newspaper, every radio station, every website and all over social media but, at last, things are beginning to settle down again. He’s in his apartment in Monaco when he has this thought: ‘What if this is as good as it gets?’
