Maybe it was stretching it to think the new setting of Marseille for an Ireland Six Nations game against France would come replete with a clean slate for those Irish supporters who arrived at the coastal city yesterday, before tonight’s opening game of the championship.

The IRFU estimates that between 7,000 and 10,000 Irish supporters will be at the cosy 67,000-seater Stade Velodrome for tonight’s occasion, which kicks off at 8pm Irish time.
