LISMIRE

Ducon Cup Win

Lismire secured their first ever Junior A Football victory with a seven-point win over Newmarket in the Ducon Cup at Newmarket last Monday evening.

Lismire started brightly with a goal inside the first minute to the industrious Cian O’Sullivan who followed up with three points and another goal to see Lismire lead by 2.3 to 1.4 after fifteen minutes. A great interception by corner-back Stephen Bourke saw him thunder down the field and combine with Eamon Hayes and Stephen Jones before billowing the Newmarket net to secure another green flag. A point to Oisin O’Connor and another O’Sullivan score saw Lismire lead at half time on a 3.5 to 1.5 scoreline.

On the resumption a shot by Darren O’Sullivan was parried by the Newmarket goalkeeper and Rory Sheahan was on hand to tap home the rebound. Cian O’Sullivan added another point to further extend Lismire’s lead. Newmarket rallied to rescue the game but with Lismire netminder Cathal Field in excellent form Newmarket were limited to a series of points.

Jack Sheahan relieved the pressure with a couple of well taken points mid-way through the half with Eamon Hayes also securing a point. The hard-working Daragh O’Keeffe and Oisin O’Connor prevented Newmarket gaining any foothold around the middle of the field and with the defence standing firm Jack Sheahan ended the scoring with a fine point to see Lismire the victors on a 4.10 to 1.12 scoreline.

Lismire: Cathal Field, Jeremy Lawlor, Conor Sheahan, Stephen Bourke (1.0), Diarmuid O’Connor, Sean McSweeney, Patrick Buckley, Oisin O’Connor (0.1), Daragh O’Keeffe, Eamon Hayes (0.1), Cian O’Sullivan (2.5), Jack Sheahan (0.3), Darren O’Sullivan, Rory Sheahan (1.0), Stephen Jones. Subs: Neil O’Connor for Stephen Jones (inj), Adam Keane for Darren O’Sullivan, Conan Walsh for Neil O’Connor (inj).
