Tale of two halves at the country’s marts as better weather in the second half of last week encourages trade

Former British PM Harold Wilson in 1964 famously said that “a week is a long time in politics”. On the farming scene, last week opened with many parts of the country once again seeing heavy rain.

However, given the time of year and with cattle to buy, summer grazers girded up their loins and headed for the sales yards regardless, intent on doing at least some business in the hope that the weather might improve.
