The Indo Daily: Successful showjumper, convicted abuser and murder accused – the shocking story of Jonathan Creswell

Jonathan Creswell

Jonathan Creswell was a charismatic and successful showjumper and horse trainer. He had a partner and two children, and from the outside, life was good for the Co Derry man. But all was not what it seemed.

Tragedy struck Creswell’s family with the death of his partner’s sister, Katie Simpson. Creswell took to social media the day she died, writing: “Fearless in the saddle, Fearless across the country, Best Aunty to my two children, We love you so much, Can’t wait to see you again”

Four years later, Creswell would stand trial for the rape and murder of 21-year-old Katie. However, it would prove to be a court case like no other, involving abuse, coercion and a death.

Today on The Indo Daily, Ellen Coyne is joined by Steven Moore, journalist with the Sunday World, to unmask the abuse suffered by many women at the hands of Jonathan Cresswell and to ask why so many people fell under his influence.
