Richard Henggeler, the owner of the Rose Hotel, has lodged a High Court summons against Kerry Rose Festival Limited in a shock legal move months ahead of the 2024 event.

Mr Henggeler, who is also a shareholder with the same company, issued the summons through his legal team on Tuesday.

Every August, the Festival of Kerry takes centre stage in the life of the Kingdom amid perennial calls in recent years for financial assistance to help keep its TV Rose selection evenings in Tralee.

The Henggeler’s association with the Festival of Kerry is a deeply personal one as Richard and Eibhlin Henggeler’s late daughter, Dorothy (Dott), was the Washington DC Rose in 2011.

Dick and Eibhlin maintained their connections with Tralee following Dorothy’s death when purchasing the Fels Point Hotel.

This was later refurbished in 2016 as the Rose Hotel and was the main focal point for the festival until recent years.
