178 people of all ages and abilities turned up on Saturday, April 13 to walk or run the 5km route around Gorey Park and celebrate Gorey’s 300th Parkrun.

Gorey Parkrun had their first event on November 26, 2016 and it has grown significantly since then.

Senator Malcolm Byrne, having completed 112 Parkruns and frequently taking on the role of Run Director, organised a plaque which was presented on the day. Cathaoirleach of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District, Cllr Pip Breen was in attendance to officially unveil the new plaque which is now displayed on the wall outside the Coffee Pod.

Organisers of the Parkrun were particularly delighted to be joined by participants from Special Olympics Gorey, Advocates for Autism, St Aidans and Down Syndrome Wexford also took part.

Independent Alliance candidate for the upcoming local elections, Nicky Boland regularly takes part in the parkrun and was delighted to mark the special occasion. “The atmosphere was electric and thankfully, the rain held off. It was great having Verona Murphy to come up to support the event and recognise this achievement. After the run, we enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee in the Coffee Pod from Sinead and team. It was also the unveiling of the Parkrun sign so celebrations all round”.

Gorey Parkrun thanked many people including Croghan’s Athletics Club for their sponsorship of a cake from Stafford’s bakery and their incredible support each week, staff at the Coffee Pod, Wexford County Council for the refreshments as well as the many volunteers that made the event so successful.
