A man was lucky to survive an incident on the afternoon of Monday, April 22 as his car went up in flames.

The man had been driving southbound along the M11 close to the service station at Ballyellen when he noticed smoke billowing from his car’s engine.

He pulled over to a layby and as soon as he got out, the car which was a 17 year old Toyota people carrier, went up in flames.

The fire brigade and several Garda cars attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

“He was lucky, it’s completely gutted so it was put on a tow truck and taken away,” said Sergeant Evelyn Reddan.
