Shankill Bowling Club

With the start of the Irish Lawn Bowls national championship fixtures up and running this week, we see a number of our members entered to pursue a little piece of the pie that is on offer to those who are willing to take their bowling to the higher level of competition. Our members compete among the best in National Singles, Pairs, Triples, and fours (rinks), we wish those brave enough to have a go well and to enjoy the journey.

Our in-house club competition is about to begin next week with doubles and triples, so please make sure that you have paid your €5 entrance fee.

This week’s fixtures in Division 2 Saturday sees our members in Greystones with a difficult game against the home side on grass. We wish them well and here’s hoping they can bring home some points to go with those following their victory in the starting game against Aughrim. Our Division 2 (Wednesday) side found Skerries a little too strong in their away game last week, and failed to gain any points but are hoping to rectify that next outing against CYM. Congratulations to our members Bridget Frazer and Martina Doherty in the national doubles, and their first round victory over Leinster, with a score of 28 points to 7 which was a great result for Shankill Bowling Club.

The Division 2 side (evening) away to BOI at Kenilworth last Monday week were unfortunate to come away with half point following their game on grass. There were no points also at Blackrock for Veterans Division 4, but a good win with three points at Crumlin for Division 3 Veterans and playing Division 2 Veterans s at home to Crumlin helped themselves to three points as well. Well done all.

The Shankill Bowling Club open bowling weekend when we invite all interested in learning the game to get in touch or drop by and give it a try, takes place from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday May 11th and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday May 12th. Hope to see you then. Shankill Bowling Club is always looking for new people to enjoy this very healthy pastime and welcome anyone who wishes to avail of membership to contact our website shankillbowlingclub.ie or call to our facilities at Quinn’s Road, Shankill.
