Donard Tidy Towns

Donard Tidy Towns are holding a plant sale in Davidstown on Saturday night and Sunday morning in the village before and after Mass and Church Sevice. Your support would be very welcome.

Donard I.C.A. guild

Donard I.C.A. members, who have been working hard to have the Health Centre in Donard reopened, met with photographer Joe Byrne from the Wicklow People on Tuesday last, in a further attempt to highlight the fact that the Centre has been closed since the beginning of Covid.

They are in constant communication with Minister Stephen Donnelly’s office to emphasise the fact that patients from Donard/Glen have to travel to Dunlavin to see their GP.

Donard/Glen Football Club

Our Division 4 team played Baltinglass in Donard on Thursday last.

There was a cold wind blowing up the valley accompanied by a steady drizzle of rain. It was a typical Donard/Balto game going back to the 1970s with the odd bit of argy Barry between the clubs. Our lads won with 4-6 to 0-6 score line.

Comhaltas news

There will be a mini fleadh in Donard Hall on Tuesday 7th May starting at 8pm. Everybody - men, women, children and anyone in between - is welcome to come along to enjoy music, song, dance and craic.

Community Market

Donard Community Market and car boot sale at Donard Community Hall on Sunday, 19th May from 11am to 4pm.

The Market will be selling such things as jewellery, honey, flowers, paintings, soap, sourdough bread and much more. If you would like to take part in the sale, please ring 087877580.

Local history group

Donard/Imaal Local History Group is hosting an evening with Wicklow Barn Owl Trust on Wednesday 8th May in Donard Hall at 8pm. Everyone is welcome.

Village Market

Adoration of the Blessèd Sacrament takes place in St Nicholas of Myra Church, on Thursday evenings from 8-9pm. All are welcome!

The Parish Centre Shop has a lovely selection of general cards, including Easter cards/bouquets. Also other items, ie. Rosary beads, Candles, Keyrings etc. We also have a selection of Confirmation and Communion items, to include pins, booklets, Rosettes, necklaces and cards. Please drop in for a look.

Golf Classic

Foroige

Our existing Foroige Teen Scene Club meets every Friday between 7-9pm, catering to youths aged 12 to 18.

Unfortunately as we approach the end of this club year in May we are losing our current leaders. We face the imminent challenge of sustaining the club to recommence in September. Without fresh leadership, our club’s continuity is at risk. We appeal to you for assistance.

Recycling Truck Collection

Blessington - First Saturday of every month, 10am to 12pm outside Blessington Community College.

Dunlavin - Second Saturday of every month 10am to 12pm outside Church of Ireland.

Hollywood - Third Saturday of every month, 10am to 12pm outside National School.

Diary Date

Dunlavin Festival of Arts 2024 will take place from Thursday June 13th to Sunday 16th.

This will be the 40th festival and will be officially opened by Chris Jaffer who is nephew of festival founder Gloria Clyne. Chris and his brother are travelling from America for the event.

If anyone would like to organise an event on the weekend contact 0879693960. The committee are interested in clubs who might want to organise some event on The Green or a street event. All ideas welcome.

Line Dancing

Line dancing takes place in the Imaal Hall every Wednesday 8-10pm, all welcome. Great way to meet new friends and keep fit.

Parish Lotto Draw

Result of draw on Saturday, April 13th at the Bingo in the Imaal Hall. The winners were: 1st Prize €1,000 Tadgh Metcalfe, 2nd €250 Susan Kelly, 3rd €100 Gillian Parke, 4th €50 Matt & Kathleen Owens, 5th €50 Anne Hynes 6th €50 Aideen Delahaunt.

Road Closure

The temporary road closure on R412 road from the R413 at Brannockstown to the R756 at Dunlavin, continues to Friday July 12th. This is to facilitate the installation of new watermain pipework. Alternative routes will be posted nearer the date.

Historical Society Journal

Copies of the latest West Wicklow Historical Society journal are on sale in Dermot Hughes’ shop in Dunlavin. The 200-page journal includes an article about the massacre on Dunlavin green in 1798, and other articles on Hollywood, Donard-Donoghmore and many different parts of west Wicklow, covering time spans from the Neolithic Age to the twentieth century. Journals cost €15 and are a great present for local people, and especially for those living abroad.

Local history books

Books on the history of Dunlavin and its environs are also available in Dermot Hughes’ shop and An Lár. They cover various aspects of the long and complex history of Dunlavin village and County Wicklow. Prices range from €14 -€30. Again, they are very suitable Christmas gifts for anyone with a local connection and will become collectors’ items in years to come.

Dunlavin Library

Dunlavin Library’s opening hours are now as follows: Tuesday 5-8pm, Wednesday and Friday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm and Saturday 11am-1pm.

Printing and photocopying service also available. Joining is free and no late fees are chargeable on overdue items. Great selection of new films in stock for young and old.

Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood sign overlooking the village is temporary and maintained by local volunteers. The sign has proven to be a popular tourist attraction and well-liked by the local community.

For these reasons, the Hollywood Community Forum is working hard on developing a new Hollywood sign to adorn our hills and has received planning permission for a robust permanent sign.

Music Generation

Music Generation Wicklow and Music Under The Mountains are coming together to offer lessons on guitar, tin whistle, traditional flute, fiddle, accordion and concertina.

Hollywood Bingo

Bingo takes place in the Hollywood Centre every Thursday night at 8.00pm with two jackpots to be won with one jackpot of €5000 and second €3,750.

Hollywood GAA Club Lotto draw results for 24th April. The numbers drawn were 8, 20, 24 & 27. There was no winner of the jackpot. The €20 seller’s prizes went to Daragh Burke 273, The €50 winners were Eoin Burke online 284, Aine Keenan online 20, Pat Traynor 311, Tina Davis 546. Car Boot Sale & Coffee Morning

Car Boot Sale & Coffee morning is on Saturday 4th May at Knockananna Hall. Eircode Y14 TF10. We will have the usual tea stall with lovely treats so come along for a cuppa and a chat. Hall will be open from 8am. No need to book just come early on the day.

Alzheimer’s Tea Day
