Afternoon Concert

On Sunday 12th May Annacurra Parish Church will hosta a concert by the award-tinning Valda Chamber Choir at 3.30pm. More information and tickets (€15 adults/€5 children) will be available soon. Tickets also available on the door. Valda are giving the concert for free for parish funds.

Darkness Into Light walk

Darkness into Light 2024 will take place on Saturday 11th May at 4.15am. Local venues: Tinahely and Carnew. If you have not registered for the most important Sunrise of 2024 so far please make sure to do so by clicking on the link https://www.darknessintolight.ie/sign-up

Aughrim Bowling Club

Aughrim Bowling Club have their first home match against Greystones at 2.30pm on Saturday next. All are welcome to observe and support.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in Aughrim Sports Club lotto on Monday April 22nd were 5, 8, 25 and 27. The jackpot was not won and there were no match three winners either: The jackpot for Monday April 29th is €8,450.

Castlemacadam Parish Sale

The Castlemacadam Parish Sale and Raffle is on Saturday May 11th from 2pm till 4pm in the Hartin Hall, Castlemacadam (Avoca). There will be delicious teas to enjoy and books, toys, bric a brac, plants, bottles, jewellery, and home-made goodies to browse, plenty of fun and games and face painting for the children and a GIANT RAFFLE with lots of prizes. Come along and join us for a very enjoyable afternoon.

Tractor & Car Run.

There will be a tractor and car run on Sunday May 12th. This event is in aid of St. Kevin’s Church Ballycoog. Registration from 11.30 at Lancaster’s garage Y14 YY17. Entry by donation. Spot prizes on the day. Refreshments afterwards in Ballycoog community hall.

Town & Country Market

There are a lot of marketeers with fantastic products and produce offerings from barista coffee, fresh biscuits, home baked cakes, artisan breads, frittatas and sausage rolls, plus freshly made garlic pesto, handmade clothing for babies, flower arrangements to beautify homes and workplaces.

We have wooden products and hand painted signs, bird boxes and natural healing products plus hand crafted cushions and hand-crafted jewellery and cards. Artisan bread and home bakes plus a beautiful setting to enjoy with the whole family and even to bring along the dog for a walk.

The playground is a fantastic place for the little ones while the New to you Thrift shop offers bargains of all kinds for the whole family. The fishing facility is open and stocked so if fishing is your passion this is the place to be. Bowling green is looking stunning, and the games have started, chat to any member for more information.

Our Lady’s Grotto

Pope Pius X11 dedicated 1954 as Marian Year , a year of devotion to Our Lady. Avoca’s mining community marked the occasion by building a grotto to the Blessed Virgin at Ballygahan on the edge of the West Avoca mine site.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Marian Year. To commemorate the event and in tribute to the men who built the grotto, the Avoca Parish community are organising a walk from SS Mary & Patricks church to the Grotto on Sunday 26th May at 6.30pm. We invite everyone to walk with us. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday 26th.

Avondale GAA

The Avondale GAA club lotto can be done online by downloading the Clubforce app on to your phone or laptop on iPad and you can do the lotto on it up until 9pm on the night of the draw.

Cycling fundraiser - Avondale GAA club will be running a fundraiser on 3rd and 4th May, when 48 club members will be taking on the challenge of competing a 24 hours of continuous cycling. Contact any club member or players for more information on the event.

As the fundraiser takes place in 1 week, everyone at the club has been busy organizing the event, sponsorship cards are circulating around through the club by players and club members, we also have the GoFundMe page setup as another alternative of donating. We are hoping for a great weekend with lots of craic. Keep donating and get this great club back flying.

A Night for Gerardine - Thank You for the Music

We are holding a concert in memory of Gerardine Cooper on Sunday 26th May in St Marys and St Michael’s Church. All proceeds of the concert are in aid of St Colman’s Residential care centre.

There will be performances by: The Ger Cooper Memorial Folk Group, Rathdrum Parish Choir, Liam Kinsella, Three’s Harmony, John and Denis Nolan and various other guests.

Tickets are on sale at €10 and are available from Avondale sports Rathdrum or at the door on the night. Refreshments afterwards

Condolences

Condolences to the Dowling family and extended family on the sad passing of Danny Dowling, may he rest in peace.

Men’s Shed

Rathdrum Men’s Shed meet for social gatherings at the Parochial House on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 1pm and on Saturdays between 10am and 12 noon.

Rathdrum Historical Society

On Monday 13th May our talk is The assassination of percival Lee Wilson and the Caravaggio. Speaker Des Kiley. All talks start at 8pm in the Anne Devlin Annex of the R.D.A hall Rathdrum A67 YC93. Entry is €5.

The Society has also arranged a guided tour of Kilmacurragh Gardens for its members and friends of the society on 6th June at 2pm. Anyone interested should text Ger O’Byrne at 087 9087653 or any member of the RHS committee.

M.A.D. Drama School

M.A.D. Drama School Rathdrum are having their end of year showcase, a Circus Extravaganza, at Avondale GAA complex on 31st May at 7.30pm. Entry is €10 for adults.
