Badminton

Leinster Badminton Open - Huge congratulations to Zara Buckley (Banteer) and Mairéad O’Sullivan (Carrigaline club) who won the Leinster U13 Badminton Open in Baldoyle at the weekend.

The girls cruised through their quarter final game on Saturday. On Sunday morning they encountered Munster friends, Alexia Belova Flanagan (Listowel) and Doireann Moloney (An Droichead) in the doubles semi final and advanced on a scoreline of 21-6 and 21-16 with many well fought rallies.

They then encountered the Munster U13 Open champions–a Leinster pairing of Arshia Khungar and Madhu Smrithi Nelakuditi. They girls had lost to them in UL recently and the Leinster girls were strong favourites. Zara and Mairéad lost the first game 14-21 but fought back to win the 2nd game 21-19. The 3rd set was all to play for and they demonstrated great team work, determination and unbelievable shots to secure the game, winning 21-12. There was no stopping the Cork pair!

Mairéad also progressed to the singles final where she encountered Madhu Smrithi Nelakuditi from Leinster. She displayed great badminton skills and was unlucky to lose the first game 20-22. She lost the 2nd game 13-21 but never gave up although the impact of 3 semifinals in singles, doubles and mixed Sunday morning was evident in her last game. A great achievement to get a gold, silver and bronze in the Leinster U13 Open–well done Mairéad

U17 Doubles - Meanwhile, her sister Anna Lucey-O’Sullivan made the semi final of the U17 Doubles with partner Riya Prakas (Dublin). Despite game games they fell short to sisters Carol and Nicole Joy who won the Doubles title.

Congratulations girls–Cork Badminton and your community are so proud of you.

Basketball

Huge Congratulations to the 1st year Colaiste Treasa Basketball team who are through to the All Ireland Schools Basketball Semi-final/final on Thursday 25th April in Tallaght, Dublin.

They were playing on 18th April in the All Ireland Qualifiers in Colaiste Treasa against school teams from Tipperary, Dublin and Kerry! They won with confidence against Tipperary and Dublin which saw them through to the final against Dingle!

This game was neck and neck in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter which brought it down to a nail biting 4th quarter. Each team were scoring basket for basket and with only 10 seconds to go and the score 39/39 Colaiste Treasa scored a basket putting them 2 points ahead...

But not over yet as with 1 second to go a foul was called and Dingle had 2 free shots!! Luckily for us they were missed, the buzzer went off and game over!! Final score 41/39 to Colaiste Treasa. What a game!Wishing you all the very best of luck in Dublin next Thursday.

Kilbrin National School

We are delighted to announce that we are holding a reading fundraiser in our school. It will be run on the readandraise.ie platform which is custom built to develop literacy levels in children while raising funds for the school.

Children can read whatever material they like we just want to see them reading and enjoying it as much as they can. A reading session can be any length of time and donations are all taken online. Our children would be delighted if you could sponsor them

The more books we read, the more money we raise! Any funds raised will be used to renovate our classrooms by upgrading the toilets and storage areas. We’ve received a grant to repair our roof so when this work will be carried out, we hope to improve our classrooms for our children as well. We would be delighted if any businesses would like to take out a digital ad on the fundraising platform.
