A new swing which caters specifically to people with disabilities as well as a range of other facilities have been installed in the children’s playground in Le Chéile Park in Askamore.

Chairperson of Askamore Community Council Linda Kearney, Cllr Joe Sullivan, leas-Cathaoirleach, Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District Cllr Fionntán Ó Suilleabháin and local resident Mary Doran and Cllr Donal Kenny were present at the playground recently and delighted that the swing is finally in place.

"At least they have the swing in now and I’m hoping that we’ll get the funding together sooner rather than later to have the pathway tarmacked because there’s no point in having a disabled swing in place without the path to get to it," said Cllr Kenny.

The playground services a big area in north Wexford including Carnew, Camolin and Ferns. “It’s a great community, the GAA Club recently raised over €50,000 from the Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser so I know that if we get between 50 to 60 per cent of the money together for the path we’ll get the rest somehow,” said Cllr Kenny.

New steering wheels were also put in place in the playground. “Wexford County Council are very impressed with the works that the community are doing in Askamore. It’s what community work is all about. They’re upgrading the playground all the time and this funding came from funding that was made available in the final quarter of 2023,” said Cllr Sullivan.
