This clash of the join table-toppers proved a lively affair in Division 1 with the county champions coming out on top at Piltown.

Cille’s, back in the top tier, went into the clash full of confidence with four wins from their previous five outings. However, on the night, goals proved crucial, though Cille’s should be reasonably happy with their overall display as they adapt to playing at the higher level.

Goalkeeper Saoirse McPeake was forced into the action in the early stages and produced a string of first class saves but was powerless to prevent the visitors from building up a 3-4 to 0-4 interval lead. Emma Brophy, Shannon Cleary, Ellie Brodigan and Alannah Boland all hit the target for Cille’s in that opening half.

Sarah Murray struck for a Cille’s goal two minutes into the second half and the hosts built on that score with a brace of points, the second from Caoimhe McPeake on 38 minutes left it 3-4 to 1-6.

The experienced Dunshaughlin girls responded in the best possible fashion with their fourth goal and by the three-quarter-way stage, led by 5-4 to 1-8. Cleary (3), Sadhbh Collins and McPeake accounted for Cille’s second half scores.
