The family of a courageous Monaghan toddler who battled back from two life-threatening operations and chemotherapy have launched an online fundraiser to repay three children’s charities that gave their “triumphant warrior” a second chance at life.

Smithboro’s Caolán McAree has spent the past 12 months bravely fighting the onset of germ cell cancer.

Fast forward the best part of a year and two potentially life-saving operations later, Caolán and his family are looking forward to the future with unbridled optimism.

In a bid to illustrate their appreciation for the “unwavering dedication and compassion” shown throughout Caolán’s path to recovery, members of the fearless Monaghan boy’s family have initiated a fundraising drive.

Much of that focus is concentrated on raising monies for Ronald McDonald House, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, and Little Blue Heroes, three children’s charities that provided much needed support during Caolán’s most challenging moments.

“Caolán has endured two serious operations to remove tumours and undergone chemotherapy treatment but thankfully, he’s emerged as a triumphant warrior and the cancer has been removed,” read a post on behalf of the family on their GoFundMe page.

“Their (charities) unwavering dedication and compassion have provided us with comfort, resources, and a sense of community during our darkest days.

“Now, as Caolán continues to thrive and grow stronger each day, we’ve been inspired by his resilient spirit and unwavering determination and as a family now what to give back to those who have helped him, us and countless other families facing similar challenges.

“The support these charities provide to families is just unbelievable.” To boost that call for support, Clones will provide the setting for a truck, tractor and car run on Saturday week (April 6).

“Please consider joining us in this mission to spread hope, joy, kindness, and support to those who need it most,” added the family.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, compassion, and unwavering support shown to us over the last year.”
